How to Connect TWO Headphones to ONE Laptop/Computer? Here’s What you Need.

Most PCs especially laptops in the market nowadays come with Bluetooth capabilities, meaning that you can connect almost any Bluetooth wireless device directly without any issue: Headphones, Speakers, Gaming Controllers and even your Smart Phone.

However, with these built-in Bluetooth, you can only connect ONE device at a time.

So, is it possible to connect TWO Devices to ONE Laptop/Computer?

The answer is YES! For audio devices like your Headphones or your Speakers, this can easily be done… but you’ll need a Bluetooth transmitter – something like this:

Avantree C51 (USB Type-C)

How to Connect Two Bluetooth Headphones to ONE Laptop/Computer using an Adapter?

With these USB Bluetooth Audio Transmitter Adapters, you don’t need to install anything extra; all you need to do is plug it into the USB or USB-C Port on your Computer/Laptop and follow the steps below.

1.
Usually the adapter powers on when you plug it in.

2. Get the adapter into Bluetooth pairing mode. (See your Adapter’s user manual)

3. Get the 1st pair of Headphones into Bluetooth pairing mode. (See your headphone’s user manual)

4. Give them a few seconds to connect. Once connected, you’d want to give it a test run and see if you can hear anything through the headphones.

5. If you can’t hear it, remember to go into your settings menu and set the Adapter as the default audio output device.

6. Once it’s working, you can repeat Step 2 and get the adapter into pairing mode again.

7. Get your 2nd pair of headphones into Bluetooth pairing mode. (See the 2nd headphone’s user manual)

8. Once they’ve connected, you should be able to hear audio through both pairs of headphones at the same time.

What about Macbook? How to Connect Two Bluetooth Headphones to Mac?

So, can you connect 2 pairs of headphones to Macbook as well? The answer is YES! Just follow the same steps as above! However, if you’re using a USB Type C port on your Mac, please make sure that it’s a Type-C port that supports audio output. Check the user manual first.

And the Microphone? Will both Microphones Work?

Good question, the answer is NOPE, unfortunately. Only the microphone on the 1st pair of headphones will function. The 2nd Headphone will be able to listen in on the conversation but not input – This is a current limitation to Bluetooth technology.

What if I want to Connect More than TWO?

This is currently impossible to do over Bluetooth. However, we do have a solution that uses 2.4Ghz Radio Frequency technology that can connect more. If you're interested, please take a look at our blog regarding this: How to Connect Up to 100 Headphones to ONE Source?

I'm pretty sure the built-in Bluetooth can only do one headphone at a time for the time being, so you'll likely need a Bluetooth adapter for that purpose. Please see our DG60 or DG80, they can both do dual-link.
